Quijos River Rafting
An hour and thirty-minute drive heading east from Quito over the eastern slopes of the Andes takes you to the world’s largest hydrographic drainage: The Amazon Basin. Through the Andean tundra, running down from the snowcapped Antisana volcano, we descend to the cloud forest valley of El Chaco. This site, neighboring Baeza (whitewater capital of Ecuador), is surrounded by productive farms and decorated by a series of waterfalls and tropical forests that collect all the water and humidity from the basin and glacier meltdown to create the impressive flow of the Quijos River. This river is named after the old inhabitants of the area, who fiercely resisted the Spanish forces commanded by Gonzalo Pizarro who in turn, sought to find forests of cinnamon and rich civilizations to plunder. Join us any Friday night to enjoy a rich historic narration inside a riverside hot tub in Cabañas Tres Rios. The following day, amidst a cloud forest environment, we will take you rafting through some of the craziest and fun rapids guided by expert rafting guides. Enjoy our delicious lunch in a riverside pristine beach. Dinner awaits back at the cabin and a great nature hearted breakfast will give you all the energy to keep exploring the neighboring waterfalls or the bird watching trails nearby.
